Hindustani Style Balti Chicken

Balti is a type of curry originating from north-eastern Pakistan,formally knows as Baltistan.This delicious Balti Chicken is cheap and easy to make,its prepared with simple spices available at your kitchen.Treat yourself with the aroma of a piece of Baltisthan's Cuisine.
Serve it with Roti/Naan.










Ingredients :-


  1. Chicken - 1 kg
  2. Onions - 2 large (Thinly Sliced)
  3. Tomatoes - 3 (Medium) Sliced
  4. Cinnamon Stick - 1 inch
  5. Green Cardamon - 2
  6. Peppercorns - 4
  7. Onion-Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  8. Red Chilli Poweder - 1 tsp
  9. Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
  10. Ginger Paste 1.1/2 tsp
  11. Garlic Paste 1.1/2 tsp
  12. Curd (Beaten) - 3-4 tbsp
  13. Green Chillies - 2 Chopped (Optional)
  14. Coriander Leaves (Finely Chopped) - 2-3 tbsp
  15. Lemon Juice - 2 tbsp
  16. Ghee/Oil - 2-3 tbsp
  17. Salt to taste


Method :-


  1. In a large pan heat oil/ghee and fry cinnamon stick,green cardamon,peppercorns fry for 2 mins.Then add the onions on medium flame till it turns slightly golden and soft.This process will take about 10 mins.
  2. Now add the tomatoes,onion-seeds,ginger-garlic paste,red chilli powder,garam masala powder and salt.Saute very nicely till oil leaves sides.This process will take 5-6 mins.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and mix nicely so that all the pieces are coated well with the masala.Fry for 3-4 mins.
  4. Add beaten curd,cover the pan and allow to cook on medium flame.
  5. The curry will be semi-thick gravy.If you need extra gravy just add 1/4 cup of water at this stage.Cook till chicken is tender.
  6. When the chicken is cooked add chopped coriander leaves,chopped green chillies and lemon juice.Stir and turn off the flame.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and lemon wedges.
  8. Serve hot with Roti/Naan.
